Firm: Jones Day
Issue Area: Guns & Arms Manufacturers
Jones Day represented gun manufacturer Smith & Wesson Brands in a lawsuit brought by Mexico, alleging that American gun manufacturers and distributors contribute to gun violence in Mexico. Jones Day argued for broad immunity for the gun manufacturers, instead blaming Mexico for being unable to control cartels.
"Unable to control cartel violence within its own borders, Mexico filed this lawsuit seeking to place the blame on seven firearms manufacturers that are incorporated and headquartered in the United States (plus the European affiliates of two of the manufacturers), as well as on a single wholesale firearms dealer.
